Ms. Ackerman has been interested in theatre for as long as she can remember, starting her career out as Sleepy in a production Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the 3rd grade. By high school she realized her greater interests were off stage. Her first Stage Management job was for Romeo and Juliet at the Lyric Arts Pocket Theatre in Anoka. She spent three weeks of a summer in high school at Hamline University participating in the Playwrights' Center's Young Playwrights Summer Conference, which ended with her participation as an actor and playwright in the 1996 PlayLabs. Orit received her degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Minnesota in 2001 where she stage managed seven shows in four years, two for the MainStage. She attempted the stage again in 1999 in a production of The Dybbuk directed by Stephen Kanee. She sat on the student-run Xperimental Theatre for three and a half years of her undergraduate work and served as Space Manager, House Manager and Stage Management Supervisor during those years. Within the Twin Cities, Orit has worked as a stage manager with Playwright's Center PlayLabs, MN Jewish Theatre Company, MN Shakespeare Project Rhombus Theatre, and Outward Spiral and did an internship for Illusion Theatre in 1999 working with Kent Stephens on Angel Headed Hipster. Orit's first production with Theatre Unbound was Shattered in the Fall of 2006 and she joined the company a few months later. Orit and her husband welcomed a daughter into their family July of 2007. This shall be her greatest management challenge yet!
