Theatre Unbound announces new Executive Director
Jenny Moeller will take over from Anne Bertram as theater approaches 20th season
The Board of Directors of Theatre Unbound has appointed Jenny Moeller to be the organization’s new executive director following the planned departure of Anne Bertram from the role she has held since 2003. The leadership transition comes as Theatre Unbound prepares to celebrate its 20th season in 2019-2020.
“Theatre Unbound has been putting women center stage for nearly 20 years,” said Moeller. “I am very excited to help this amazing company and board continue to expand and grow into the next twenty.”
Jenny Moeller has been making theatre professionally in the twin cities for over 12 years. She works as a freelance designer, stage manager, and director and enjoys writing silly comedies with fully-developed female protagonists. Jenny is co-founder and artistic director of Raw Sugar, where she has produced her own work, as well as many others.
Under Anne Bertram’s leadership, Theatre Unbound has maintained and grown its place as one of the region’s leading theaters dedicated to producing live theatre created and conceived by women. An exemplary artistic and administrative leader, Bertram, with the help of the ArtsLab program for organizational development, led the creation of a new, consensus-driven process for artistic decision-making at Theatre Unbound. A playwright herself, Bertram’s work has been seen in venues from off-Off Broadway to middle-school classrooms in Fargo, as well as in a number of Theatre Unbound productions, including best-sellers Murderess (2011) and The Good Fight (2012).
Moeller comes to Theatre Unbound at an exciting time for the organization and for women in theatre across the region as a whole. As Theatre Unbound approaches twenty years of centering women’s voices, more and more theatres across the Twin Cities are recognizing the value of women’s leadership–on stage and in administrative roles.
