What’s your favorite (or extraordinary) skill that you had to learn for a show? To learn lines in Swedish.

Why should people come see “Aliens with Extraordinary Skills”? Because it’s a beautiful, human play.

“Aliens” is the story of Nadia, who immigrates to the US from Moldova. How has immigration shaped your story, or your family’s story? My family has been in America since before the Revolutionary War. There are times that I wish I actually were first generation, but it’s kind of weird to think that my family has been here that long.

Stephen Houtz (INS 2) is pleased to return to Theatre Unbound, appearing previously in Quilters, Chemical Imbalance, and “The Judge’s Wife.” He recently did a four-month run in Souvenir at Commonweal Theatre Company, and he has performed with Skylark Opera Theatre, The Minnesota Opera, History Theatre, Chanhassen Theaters, and Park Square Theatre, and has appeared in local film and commercials. He has directed for Eden Prairie Players, SteppingStone Theatre Company, VISTA Productions, Phipps Center for the Arts, and Highland Park High School; music director for Park Square Theatre Company, Stages, the Ordway Theatre, Commonweal Theatre Company, History Theatre, and St. Croix Festival Theatre. As a composer, his works have been heard around the country: most recently a chamber opera, The Gift of the Magi was performed in Birmingham, AL this fall. He is a Teaching Artist at Park Square Theatre, and has a private voice and piano studio in his home in Edina.

Aliens with Extraordinary Skills runs September 9-24 at Gremlin Theatre in St. Paul. Buy tickets here.
